Q & A
What is counselling and psychotherapy?
The College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario defines psychotherapy as "the assessment and treatment of cognitive, emotional or behavioural disturbances by psychotherapeutic means, delivered through a therapeutic relationship based primarily on verbal or non-verbal communication".
The Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association defines counselling as "a relational process based upon the ethical use of specific professional competencies to facilitate human change. Counselling addresses wellness, relationships, personal growth, career development, mental health, and psychological illness or distress. The counselling process is characterized by the application of recognized cognitive, affective, expressive, somatic, spiritual, developmental, behavioural, learning, and systemic principles".
How long is a therapy session?
Each session is 50 minutes of direct client contact and 10 minutes is allocated after the session for record keeping; thus, the full fee is for 60 minutes.
How much does each session cost?
The fee per session is $170 (taxes included). The fee includes the amount per session plus record keeping time. The preferred method of payment is e-transfer.
Do you provide receipts for insurance?
Absolutely! After you have paid for the session by e-transfer, I will give you a receipt that includes my professional registration number with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). Please check with your insurance plan prior to session to see if you are covered.
Do you offer sliding scale rates?
Yes! If you do not have insurance to cover the costs of counselling and psychotherapy sessions, I have a sliding fee scale which is determined with the client. Please note that there are a limited number of spots available for sliding fee scale clients.
Where are you located?
Currently, my practice is virtual and can be done by either telephone and/or video. I am physically located in Ottawa, Ontario. I use a securely encrypted teletherapy platform with my clients and together we determine how to set up our sessions in a way that feels private, safe and comfortable. I work with clients who live all over Ontario, as well as a few who are living outside of the province in a jurisdiction that permits out-of-province therapy services.
